Reviews
I was hospitalized this year for my terminal illness. While being in the hospital I was put on a Ketamine drip. This helped quiet my thoughts which in turn made positive patterns of thought. I researched and decided to pursue this treatment and everyone at the clinic is super friendly. I enjoy the nurses company prior to the treatment and the checkins. They have built a self-care assessment tool to help with your treatment. You will need a referral from your doctor but I highly recommend this clinic. Hands done the best staff I have worked with. Thank you Christy Hatcher, Lindsey, and Ashlee Villaume. I appreciate you.
I have been a patient at MKW Institute for almost exactly a year. I have had an excellent experience, as 96 people have shared before me, but I've hesitated on writing a review because I didn't have anything to compare it to. It's not like a restaurant where I kinda know what to expect and I've been to 500 different kinds but they're all the same basic principle. I won't write my review about the amazing benefits of ketamine, because that's what most reviews are about (not as much about the clinic itself). All I'll say is that I echo them. It's a travesty that Medica has decided to stop covering it, and I hope the FDA stops considering ketamine via IV for depression and PTSD "off label" so insurance companies are forced to cover it just as they do the dozens of medications I (and perhaps you!) had tried to no avail (w many side effects). Ketamine did more for me in my first infusion than the 11 years of failed med cocktails prior (and years and years of therapy to boot, but I should add that therapy is more effective if your brain actually stops sabotaging itself, so therapy of the past HAS helped me.. but kinda retroactively. Anyway..). Ketamine is the reason I'm still alive today. Full stop. If you're reading this and you don't have any hope at all, I swear to you - I didn't either. My depression got worse every year, as did my C-PTSD, and now I almost pass the PHQ-9 with a score of 0 sometimes! Sounds impossible, right? I know. My depression is well-treated but my rambling google reviews are not. So, sorry. Back on track! I got word that my insurance company stopped covering infusions for depression, deeming them "investigative," meaning that these will come out of pocket. I decided to google other ketamine clinics - not because I don't like MKW, but because I was hoping for a cheaper out of pocket experience. $400 (after the first 6 infusion series, which are $500 each) is no small price. But as it turns out, that's pretty run of the mill. But I decided to look up The Remedy because they advertise a less expensive experience, and they are an entire 30 minutes closer to my house. I did my intake with them, and it was clear that uhhh the "vibe was off," as the cool kids say. Because I was new to the Remedy, referring myself, I was a little bit assumed to be a criminal. Since Ketamine is used recreationally, there's a LOT of stigma in the field about using it for depression. I was treated with extreme suspicion, and told there would be random drug tests. I don't even do drugs, but the way they talked to me was NOT patient-centered care. I know this because I'm used to the treatment I get at MKW. Christy (owner), Ashlee, and Lindsey (the two RNs I know the best) know me by name, they genuinely care about me. The whole experience is so gentle and light hearted. There is no judgment or suspicion. You may be thinking, well what's a little judgment if you're "innocent" (drug-free)? Well, a person knows when they are not trusted. And so much about a positive ketamine experience is your mindset and environment. Walking in and already feeling uneasy, and worried that I'd have to pee in a cup (I find that a stressful experience even though I have nothing to hide.. hello do these people (Remedy) know anything about trauma informed care???) before any given appointment?? that's not grounds for a successful ketamine infusion. Nope. Having a weird vibe at Remedy, I actually just decided to email Christy. I gave it to her straight, like, hi, ketamine (as you know) has saved my life, and I'm struggling with the insurance news, do you have any options for me? And we came up with a payment plan. I don't want to promise that on her behalf, because she has a clinic to run and it's a really small clinic, but I tell you this because Christy continues to go above and beyond. She's in this business for the right reasons. She's not here to make money off sad people - she's here because she wants to see people find a reason to live. HOPE for the first time in their lives! I am deeply grateful for this clinic and you will be too.
I’ve struggled with depression, anxiety and suicidal ideation and have been seeing a psychiatrist for over a year. We went through 16 medications and I found no relief and was feeling hopeless. Then, I found the Minnesota Ketamine and Wellness Institute and my life was saved. After just a couple visits, both my mom and my therapist said I seemed noticeably calmer. The bigger impact is that my suicidal ideation has disappeared. Also, I’m overall more tranquil and more prepared to face the struggles of life. I’ve been sharing my story with all my friends to convince them to start treatment, it will literally heal your soul!
This place has truly changed my life. I would do one thing maybe 1-2x a month, now I’m up almost every day doing things & improving more over time. My mindset has changed in so many ways-I am more motivated & have a much better attitude towards myself & my life. It has given me hope in a way I couldn’t get myself to feel before. The staff created a serene, calm environment, and are friendly, kind, helpful. Their in-house therapist is understanding, gentle, supportive, will help you learn how to make the most out your treatments. Also, your treatments & doses are catered just for you & adjusted along the way as needed, so you get the best treatment for you. I do recommend asking them for what specific music to listen to while receiving treatment, as well as bringing an sleep mask to cut out all light & ear buds to listen to music, cutting out all outside distractions-it makes a HUGE difference along with the specific music they recommend (I use 432 Hz healing music by Jason Stephenson) with a Spotify premium subscription for the duration of your treatment. This was the best choice I’ve ever made for myself, despite how nervous I was! I will forever be indebted to them for saving my life.
I cannot speak more highly of this clinic and their staff. As someone who has tried every possible treatment to alleviate my lifelong depression, I was less-than-optimistic that Ketamine infusions would provide any sort of tangible relief. I was so wrong. Not only has my depression become absolutely manageable, my acute bout of PTSD stemming from witnessing violence at work, was completely gone after a handful of infusions. It was like a lightswitch went on and I was finally, and continue to be, at peace. I cannot emphasize how incredible the staff is. They are knowledgeable, kind, compassionate, patient, and attentive to everyone's unique needs. The space does not feel like a clinic but a healing space. Every person on staff is dedicated to guiding you on your path to healing and genuinely rooting for your success. They are not financially motivated like other clinics, and you will never feel like a number. I just cannot praise the staff or the work of this clinic more highly. Thank you Minnesota Ketamine & Wellness Institute. You have given so many of us lifelong hope and healing.
